Utility Maintenance Worker - Lift Stations
Job Summary:
Performs a variety of tasks associated with the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of wastewater lift stations and plants as assigned.
Essential Functions:
Regular and timely attendance at work.
Assist in the repair and maintenance activities of waste water lift stations including maintenance of sewage pumps, motors, valves, impellers, and minor construction.
Checks lift station, log meter, gauge, and calculates readings.
Maintain operation and maintenance log on wastewater pumps and lift station.
Maintains appearance of grounds and lift station.
Monitors and reports unauthorized discharges to crew leader and supervisor.
Serve as "essential personnel" and is required to remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or man made disaster, or any other event the Director of Public Works, Assistant City Manager, or the City Manager deem necessary.
Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
One (1) to two (2) years experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical motors and other equipment used in the operation of waste water lift stations, preferred.
Must hold Class "1" Collection Certification, issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), required; or the ability to obtain the certification within one (1) year of hire.
Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Some Excel and Microsoft Word preferred.
Ability to operate a vehicle for City business, two-way radio, telephone, 1-ton crane truck, fork lift, hand tools, gas detector, self contained breathing apparatus, voltage meter.
Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of water pumps, electrical motors, and the operation of lift stations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to present a positive image of the City at all times.
