Special Events Intern - Unpaid

Internship Dates: September 6 - December 9 (15 weeks)

Internship Goal:  The goal of the City of Pearland Parks & Recreation Special Events Internship is to provide an intern with the opportunity to apply information and skills obtained in the classroom to real-life work situations.  The internship also offers the opprotunity to gain experience in planning, organizing, leading and evaluating various facility grand openings and City hosted events.  Furthermore, it provides the intern with a constructive review and evaluation of their skills and competencies; thus allowing realistic direction to further professional development.

Job Description:  This internship opportunity includes a wide range of responsibilities in the area of event planning and on-site event production.  The intern will help facilitate City facility grand openings, ribbon cuttings and ground breakings, as well as offer support during large community events, as neded.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the event planning and implementation for City facility grand openings/ground breakings.
• Work with internal stakeholders while coordinating with other departments or agencies to ensure event needs are met (i.e. police, traffic, school district, local businesses, etc.).
• Assist with event marketing.
• Ensure participant and staff safety at events.
• Compile and prepare recap reports and work orders.

Requirements:

• Eligible candidates shall have taken university course work related to special event planning or hospitality.
• Students are required to work no more than 40 hours per week for the duration of the internship, unless otherwise agreed upon between the department and the student's university.
• The schedule and hours are flexible, depending on the specific projects assigned.  The final schedule is to be agreed upon by all parties at the beginning of the internship.
