Recreation Specialist - Events

Job Summary:   Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty planning, assisting with the organizing and facilitating of the department's special events.

Essential Functions:

Performs regular and timely attendance at work.

Provides concept development and organization of special events, to include but not limited to, idea conception and all necessary planning to make the event a success benefiting the community, creating an event timeline, securing vendors, merchants, musicians, and sponsorships.

Manages events, as assigned.

Provides follow-up throughout the planning stage to ensure all parties are on the same timeline and understand the event needs.

Provides follow-up after the event to better serve future events, and to show appreciation to vendors and sponsors for their participation.

Assists in creating and maintaining relationships with local merchants throughout the year.

Makes public announcements at each event providing information crucial to the event as well as promoting future events and other programs.

Develops, prioritizes, and implements tactical project plans, including promotion of events through press releases, brochures, presentations, and other creative forms of marketing.

Assists with compiling estimated cost models, submitting requisitions, and maintaining supplies, inventories, and equipment for events.

Assists in coordinating with other departments and/or agencies to ensure event needs are met, i.e., police, streets and drainage, school district, local businesses, etc.

Provides assistance to ensure that event facilities are effectively supervised and secured by staff.

Determines appropriates responses to problems and emergencies.

Compiles and prepares reports and work orders.  Provides project status updates; accurately completes daily, weekly, and monthly reports as needed.

Monitors safety and renders emergency first aid to injured or stricken patrons.

Assists with program registration as needed.

May be required to remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or man made disaster, or any other event the Recreation Superintendent/Director of Parks and Recreation, Assistant City Manager, or City Manager may deem necessary.

Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees and the general public.

Ability to present a positive image of the City of Pearland at all times.

Ability to fulfill requests or otherwise provide services, accurate information or assistance in a courteous and timely manner without complaining.

Ability to actively listen and demonstrate competence and interest to the general public, citizens, and co-workers.

Ability to perform research, develop solutions, and to prepare clear and concise reports.

Knowledge of principles and philosophy of community recreation and leisure.

Knowledge of marketing techniques for special events.

Education, Experience and Licenses:

Bachelor degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.

Experience that demonstrates a proven history of coordinating special events, required.

Municipal Government experience preferred.

Valid Class C Texas Driver's License, required.

First Aid and CPR Certification, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
