Police Officer (Entry Level Test)

Salary:   $16.48/hour Cadet

               $25.15/hour Probationary Police Officer

The City participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at a 7% employee deposit rate with a municipal matching ratio of 2:1. A full range of leave and insurance benefits is also provided.

ENTRY LEVEL POLICE TEST

(Both experienced and inexperienced candidates must apply for, take and pass the entry level police test in order to proceed in the hiring process)

Test Time:  8:00 a.m. (No one admitted after 7:45 a.m.)

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL CANDIDATES:

• Be a citizen of the United States.

• Able to read, write and speak the English language.

• Be between 18 and 45 years of age at the time of the examination.

• Must meet all legal requirements necessary to become a licensed Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE, formerly TCLEOSE).

• Have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (G.E.D.) certified by the issuing agency (i.e. Texas Education Agency) – Attach copies to the application. (College transcript indicating HS graduation will suffice)

• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Attach a copy to application.

Experienced Officer Hiring Incentive Program

The City of Pearland is currently offering a hiring incentive program for experienced peace officers. The program offers $5,000 to police officer candidates who are licensed as peace officers in the State of Texas at the time of their appointment and who have been continuously employed by another law enforcement agency in a full-time paid Patrol position for at least two (2) years and agree to the terms and conditions of the incentive program agreement.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Cadet:  

Attach with application transcripts showing a minimum of 30 hours of higher education with at least a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale from an institute of higher learning; or

Member 2 or Member 4 copy of an honorable discharge (DD-214) from the armed forces of the United States showing at least 24 months of active duty service, must be attached.   (24 months is only for those wanting to substitute military time for the educational component).

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Attach a copy to application.

Probationary Officer (No Incentive): 

Basic Proficiency Certification from TCOLE in addition to at least 15 more hours of higher education with at least a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale (the additional hours cannot be police academy hours); or

An Intermediate Proficiency Certification from TCOLE.

Must attach copies of the Basic Proficiency Certification and college transcript showing 15 semester hours of higher education or copies of an Intermediate Proficiency Certification.

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Attach a copy to application.

Probationary Officer (Incentive):  

A licensed peace officer in the State of Texas at the time of appointment to the City of Pearland.   Experience as a certified peace officer for a minimum of two (2) continuous years, serving in a full-time capacity as such.  Must attach copies of the Basic Proficiency Certification or Intermediate Proficiency Certification. 

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Attach a copy to application.

SALARY:  Police Cadet $16.48 per hour

SALARY:  Probationary Certified Police Officer $25.15 per hour

Copy of HS Diploma (or GED), a certificate reflecting highest level of education and a copy of the applicant's driver's license must be attached to the application.  

A member 2 or member 4 copy of the DD-214 showing honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States with at least 180 consecutive days of duty service (for veterans' preference), must also be attached to the application. 

Basic Proficiency Certification or Intermediate Proficiency Certification from TCOLE must also be attached to the application.  

A copy of Applicant's Driver's License  must also be attached.

Applications submitted without the attached documents will not be considered.

Applicants must show proof of identity at the test site by providing a valid driver's license. Applicants who pass the written examination should be prepared to attend the physical ability test on December 5, 2015.

Candidates who pass the written exam will be subject to successful completion of the following: driver analysis; physical ability test, background investigation; medical examination, including drug testing; psychological evaluation; polygraph test; oral review board; and any other relevant investigation deemed necessary.
