Paid Volunteer Firefighter
Job Summary: Protects life and property by performing firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention duties. Maintains fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities.
Essential Functions:
Regular and timely attendance at work.
Responds to emergencies, lays hose, performs fire combat, containment, extinguishment salvage, and overhaul tasks.
Performs emergency aid activities including rescue, and emergency medical aid.
Participates in fire company drills and training, attends classes in firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous materials and related subjects.
Prepares correct, accurate, and concise reports.
Provides housekeeping.
Inspects, maintains apparatus, equipment, tools, and facilities.
Drives fire apparatus and operates pumps and related equipment.
Maintains positive relations and works cooperatively with other people.
Participates in public relations events for the general public.
Assists in department supervisory and administrative activities as assigned.
Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Valid, Texas Driver's License
Have a clean driving record
Have reliable transportation
Have proof of liability insurance for your vehicle
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to think and act quickly, exercising sound technical judgment under emergency conditions.
Ability to act effectively under stressful emergency situations.
Ability to drive and effectively operate fire apparatus, fire and rescue equipment, and tools.
Ability to perform emergency medical care methods and procedures.
Ability to apply standard firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention techniques.
Ability to maintain discipline and adherence to the policies and procedures and standard operating guidelines
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with full-time, part-time and volunteer personnel, Command Staff, Supervisors, other City Staff and the general public.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to learn emergency medical care practices and procedures.

The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, taste and/or smell. The position requires the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus and possibly a respirator.
The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move heavy objects up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
