The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Crime Scene Investigator to work within our Police Department.
The Crime Scene Investigator earns a competitive hourly wage of $27.03 to $29.26, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance, plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. General Description
The purpose of this job within the organization is to thoroughly document crime scenes and identify, collect, and process physical evidence. Responsible for property room controls including the packaging, securing and chain of custody for all evidence collected and submitted for storage and processing.
This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Essential Functions:
- Respond upon request to document law enforcement scenes and identify, collect, and process physical evidence.
- Fulfill rotating on-call responsibilities, requiring a response 24 hours a day within 40 minutes of notification.
- Replicate video evidence.
- Complete supplemental reports for actions in each case.
- Manage the intake, processing and storage of submitted evidence, ensuring proper chain of custody and documentation.
- Complete submission documents for analysis of evidence. Hand deliver DNA/Print, firearm, narcotic, and trace evidence to appropriate laboratories.
- Generate disposition tracers, destruction orders, and pull items for destruction.
- Conduct property room audits.
- Courtroom testimony, DA's Office consultations, property hearings, and autopsy attendance.
- Communicate and coordinate property returns with owners.
- Maintain the inventory of supplies available to officers for evidence collection and submission.
- Perform related work as assigned.

Reads technical instructions, procedures manuals and charts to solve practical problems, such as routine office equipment operating instructions; composes routine reports and specialized reports, forms, and business letters, with proper format; speaks compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two (2) years of college education.
- Minimum two (2) years related experience and/or training.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Crime Scene Technician Certification is preferred, or the ability to obtain with one (1) year from date of hire.

Emergency Management Responsibilities
