The City of Pearland is seeking a dynamic, proven leader for the Safety Coordinator position in the Human Resources Department. This individual must be dedicated to ensuring the overall safety conditions of City staff and facilities by working to correct violations and unsafe conditions.  The Safety Coordinator will review, evaluate, and analyze work environments to assist in the design and coordination of the City's safety program and procedures to mitigate loss in alignment with long and short term strategic planning. 

Are you excited by a position that has a variety of safety and risk responsibilities including:

  1. Develop and implement a City-wide safety program.  Include policies on safe work practices and the drug and alcohol program.
  2. Administers Workers 'Compensation benefit program including but not limited to filing claims, accident investigations, and light duty administration.
  3. Develop and present safety meetings and training to City departments to address their specific needs.  Maintain attendance records and evaluations of these activities.
  4. Coordinate and conduct worksite safety audits and inspections.  Identify and evaluate potential problems, report findings and make recommendations to the appropriate supervisor.
  5. Investigate work-related accidents and injuries for the purpose of developing educational programs to prevent similar incidents in the future.
  6. Periodically, analyze loss information and report the findings to department supervisors for the purpose of education and training.
  7. Develop, oversee and alter various safety programs and committees as needed.  Work with departments/individuals to coordinate proper implementation of the programs/committees.
  8. Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes or materials.
  9. Investigate accidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
  10. Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment and practices, or order to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  11. Address employee relations issues, such as harassment allegations, work complaints or other employee concerns (as needed.)
  12. Assist in gather risk-related data from internal and external resources and analyze areas of potential risk and produce reports or presentations that outline finds, explain risk positions or recommend changes.
  13. Stay abreast of current Risk Management trends making certain the City is up-to-date.
  14. Develop curriculum for and train new hires and current City employees in a myriad of risk-related areas.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management, or a closely related field, and three (3) years progressive experience in safety and workers' compensation; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid, Class "C" Texas drivers license
  • Safety Certificate preferred
  • Two (2) years public entity experience preferred
