Hours:   Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Job Summary:   Install and maintain signs and other traffic control devices to standards set by Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Guide Book. This position exists to maintain safe traffic control for the safety of the public.
 

Essential Functions:
Regular and timely attendance at work.

Reads work orders to determine type of sign specified, work procedures, and materials required.

Maintain traffic control devices (barricades) necessary to meet standard; maintain work zone traffic control.

Install traffic sign to set standard.

Trim tree limbs blocking signs.

Clean spills in roadway; concrete, oil, glass, etc.

Work, as needed, with asphalt crew on overlays and patching.

Work, as needed, with drainage crew driving dump truck setting pipe and surveying.

Serves as "essential personnel" and is required to remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or man made disaster, or any other event the Public Works Director or City Manager deem necessary.

Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

 
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

One (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License is required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to operate a hand held radio, City truck to perform City business, brush truck, back hoe, dump truck, pruner, key map, power auger, ratchet, wrench, post hole digger, shovel, broom, sledge hammer, slide hammer, and other general hand tools.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.

Ability to follow oral and written directions.
