Oversee and supervise various duties and staff associated with developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs, classes, summer camps, enrichment, and leisure activities for all ages. Responsible for ensuring design and delivery or program activities organized by staff are safe, active, supportive, and appropriate to the participants' age and abilities.


Under the general direction of the Recreation Superintendent, directly supervises the Knapp Activity Center Supervisor, Youth Development Coordinator, Recreation Specialists and part-time Recreation Attendants working in the Kids Korner and all recreation programs including Adaptive Recreation, Fitness, Youth Development, and Senior Programming. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Regular and timely attendance at work.

Monitor and review delivery and completion of program surveys and evaluations and make recommendations to staff on continuation, improvement, collaboration, and/or divestment of each program.

Advise staff concerning present, short-term and long-range strategic planning efforts for the Recreation Programming.

Prepare budget, status and statistical reports; and evaluate priorities, proposals and performance measures and reports for recreation, fitness, leisure and adaptive recreation.

Address, resolve and advise on issues and concerns of program patrons both youth and adults.

Develop professional service agreements and foster community partnerships to produce a more beneficial and financially stable outcome in all programming areas.

Ensure that staff and participants know and follow safety and educational procedures during programs, classes and general facility use.

This position is designated as "essential personnel" and is required to be available for immediate call-in due to any natural or manmade disaster, or any other event the Recreation Superintendent, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, Director of Parks and Recreation, or City Manager deem necessary.

Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.


Bachelor Degree in Recreational Programming, Organization and Administration of Health, Physical Education/Recreation or a related field preferred.

Three (3) years of experience in recreation programming or related area.

First Aid and CPR Certification are required.

Valid Class C Texas Driver's License required or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire

Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP), are preferred.

Municipal Government experience preferred.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Ability to operate a Personal Computer, telephone, fax machine, and copier. Occasionally use City or personal vehicle to complete tasks.
