Job Summary:    Performs a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance of park and recreation facilities, and public rights-of-way, as assigned.

Essential Functions:
Regular and timely attendance at work.

Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from Parks Crew Leader.

Performs ground maintenance activities including weeding, mowing, edging, planting, collecting trash, trimming, chemical spraying, minor drainage work, and leveling for City of Pearland property and parks.

Digs flower beds and plants flowers; constructs decorative flower garden borders from wood.

Performs facility maintenance activities including painting, repair of playground equipment, ball field maintenance, swimming pool maintenance, and minor construction.

Operates and performs minor repair and maintenance on trucks, tractors, mowers, and power hand tools.

Performs construction activities such as building playground equipment, barrier posts, small shelters, and flower beds; replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts, in machines and equipment such as truck, and riding mower.

Repairs or replaces building brick, stone, and concrete; maintains and repairs wood.

Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Serves as "essential personnel" and is required to remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or man made disaster, or any other event the Park Superintendent, the Director of Parks and Recreation and/or City Manager deem necessary.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Six (6) months to one (1) year previous experience in related field, preferred.

Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers; ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to operate a vehicle for business use, mower, rake, hoe, gardening tools, paint brushes, shovel, hammer, chalk liner, backpack sprayer, pruning shears, loppers, mop, squeegee, broom, saw, and various hand tools and machinery/motorized equipment.

Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
