Job Summary: Perform various duties associated with implementing and coordinating programs at the Westside Event Center, assisting with rental processes, handling registration for programs and classes, monitoring splashpad, and performing janitorial duties.
Under the general direction of the Recreation Center Supervisor, assists with supervision of Recreation Attendants and Instructors in the Recreation Division of Parks and Recreation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training part time employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Regular and timely attendance at work.
Monitors and supervises drop-in recreation usage by recreation center patrons.
Develops, implements, and supervises recreation programs, classes, and activities for all age groups and interests; recruit class instructors, and determines class schedules and fees.
Register and enroll participants, inform participants of class changes, cancellations and/or other issues, make refunds (or appropriate adjustments), and evaluate class programs.
Physically adapt recreation center facility for daily recreation center usage through movement of recreation center equipment apparatus.
Assists with the rental processes for this facility by answering questions, providing tours, scheduling staff, cleaning services, and security for rentals, facilitating rental appointments, handling payments, requesting refunds, and resolving any issues from those renting the Banquet Hall, Meeting Room, or Southdown Pavilion.
Create press releases, flyers, and other marketing material.
Settle disputes between groups or individual players regarding use of facilities.
Recommend and write disciplinary action when needed.
Inform patrons of rules concerning dress, conduct, or equipment and enforce rules; eject unruly or unauthorized persons as necessary.
Order supplies and work within approved budget.
Monitor for safety and render emergency first aid to injured or stricken patrons.
Inspect and report damage to facilities to appropriate authority.
Accurately complete daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as needed.
Hires, trains, schedules, motivates, and evaluates part-time staff and contractual instructors
Develops, implements, and supervises recreation programs, including outdoor recreation and community outreach.
Coordinates the requisition of supplies and equipment for recreation programs, special programs and events.
Investigates and resolves citizen complaints and inquiries regarding programs.
Ensure that accurate program statistics are maintained-such as accident reports, and participation for hours which programs/facilities are managed.
Assist with the distribution, inventory, and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Provide date/reports to supervisor as requested.
Maintain customer service standards set by the Department and City.
Supervise, select, hire, mentor, and educate direct report recreation division employees in a manner that reinforces Pearland Parks and Recreation Department's values and philosophies. Ensure the operation of the program division meets city standards and provides an environment of member and guest satisfaction by providing positive leadership for the team on a daily basis.
Create, coordinate, resource, implement, deliver, market and sell all recreation programs and services.
Performs janitorial duties as needed. i.e. mop floors, remove trash, clean restrooms
Monitor daily operations of the splashpad during operating months
Ensure the safety of all program members and guests.
Ensure all equipment is in proper working order
Ensure the facility is always clean and orderly, including preventative maintenance on designated equipment. Perform inspections on designated equipment as needed.
Adhere to all mandatory standards of operation, policies, procedures, manuals, memos, oral instructions, etc., all of which related to the essential functions of the job.
Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
Be available for immediate call-in due to any natural or man made disaster, or any other event the Recreation Superintendent/Director of Parks and Recreation/City Manager may deem necessary.
Conduct regular meetings and education sessions for direct report employees. In addition, cooperate with the Recreation Center Supervisor in conducting quarterly meetings for all employees. Meet regularly with the Recreation Center Supervisor and other divisions in the facility to ensure that there is regular communication to other employees in the facility regarding the fitness division's services and operation.
Assist in the delivery of division services as required, including providing specific services as qualified to do so by training (examples are working the floor, facilitating program activities, etc..)
Conduct oneself at all times in a manner of professionalism that aligns with the values, philosophies and standards or Pearland Parks and Recreation.
Obtain customer feedback and use it to create/provide programs of interest.
Stay abreast of trends in recreation programming and develop new and innovative programs in correlation with community needs and desires.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
Bachelor Degree in Recreational Programming, Organization and Administration of Health, Physical Education/Recreation or a related field, preferred. An Associate Degree may be substituted for the Bachelor Degree requirement with two (2) years prior experience.
Experience in recreational programming preferred.
Municipal Government experience preferred.
Valid Class C Texas Driver's License, required.
Certified Pool Operator Certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
First Aid and CPR Certification, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 required, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Ability to operate a Personal Computer, telephone, fax machine, and copier. Occasionally use City or personal vehicle to complete tasks
