The Animal Services division falls under an active and engaged Police Department. The unit is provided with up to date equipment including modern trucks with climate control bays, a lift bay, in vehicle computer systems, and are stocked with all necessary equipment. A new state-of-the-art animal shelter and adoption center is in the design phase after a bond was approved by voters.
The Animal Services Supervisor earns a competitive salary based on experience. Daily Job Functions:
- Coordinates daily work activities; schedules, assigns, and monitors department operations.
- Provides guidance, assistance, and training to animal control officers and shelter attendants.
- Monitors status of work and evaluates completed work.
- Maintains knowledge and awareness of laws/regulations, procedures, trends and advances in the profession.
- Communicates with supervisor, city employees, other animal control agencies, veterinarians, local businesses, and the public as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolves problems
- Remains available for on call emergency response to aggressive, sick, or injured animals, bite cases, loose livestock and wild animals in the home.
- Enforces the provisions of all city ordinances, laws and regulations; initiates action necessary to correct violations; issues warning notices and/or citations
- Impounds stray, sick, diseased, wild, rabid, dangerous, dead, injured animals and livestock.
- Euthanizes sick, injured, dangerous, wild or unwanted animals.
- Works to increase live release rates through partnerships with rescue organizations, reunification, foster and adoptions.
The ideal candidate will have the minimum qualifications, experience and certifications:
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in animal control or closely related field.
- Requires two years animal control or closely related experience.
- Certified Animal Control Officer
- Certified Euthanasia Technician
- Certified Animal Cruelty Investigator or Certified Equine Cruelty Investigation
- Must have successfully completed a state-approved basic animal control training course
